The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) emphasized in 2019 that education should be committed to helping learners embrace uncertainty so that they can function in constantly changing environments and unexpected situations, rather than trying to predict and understand what will happen. The future skills framework proposed in this report covers a wide range of skills from digital literacy to global citizenship awareness, which are considered the most important aspects for individuals to successfully cope with complex and unknown challenges. Facing future challenges, we need to equip students with future skills to deal with complexity and uncertainty, and help them thrive in the context of constantly emerging new things.

The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Educational Technology has released a new report, "Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Teaching and Learning: Observations and Recommendations," which acknowledges the rapid advances in artificial intelligence (AI) that are impacting societal development and summarizes the opportunities and risks of AI in education, learning, instructional research and assessment. The report cautions that the use of AI technologies can enable more innovative forms of teacher-student-computer interaction, but it also warns that the development of AI will not only exacerbate known and existing risks but also has the potential to raise new and unknown risks.

The UK Joint Examination Board has published guidance entitled Using AI in Teaching Assessment - Protecting the Integrity of Qualifications, a document that provides a reference guide for primary and secondary school teachers to help them identify, investigate and report student misconduct (including misuse of AI). It also sets out the Department of Education's position on the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in the student assessment and evaluation process. The document applies to general qualifications such as GCSEs (UK secondary school entrance exams) and A-Levels (equivalent to UK GCSEs) as well as vocational qualifications, and the guidance reminds teachers and assessors to follow best assessment practice in the context of the widespread availability of AI.
