This webinar delves into the topic of transformative potential of ChatGPT in education beyond the initial hype. Beginning with an overview of Singapore's current educational landscape and its response to technological advancements, the session transitions to a critical analysis of the existing literature on ChatGPT in education. Drawing from a recent bibliometric and altmetric study that Dr. Wong and his colleagues carried out, emergent trends at the intersection of artificial intelligence and education are uncovered. The presentation further offers practical insights through a case study that exemplifies advanced applications of ChatGPT, framed within the contours of Second Language Acquisition Theory. This case study provides educators and researchers with valuable insights into the nuanced integration of ChatGPT into teaching practices. Geared towards educators, researchers, and individuals interested in probing the implications of ChatGPT for pedagogy and independent learning, this session provides a platform for exchanging ideas on the future possibilities of ChatGPT in education.
